Shakira’s Quest for Perfection: Forever Seeking Satisfaction in Her Music

Shakira has openly confessed that she is never completely content with her own songs.

The singer of the popular song ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ is extremely self-critical and confessed that whenever she listens to her successful tracks, she always discovers areas where she could have made them even better.

In an interview with Vogue Mexico and Latin America, the renowned artist expressed her candid thoughts, stating, “I must admit, I’m not particularly fond of my own work. Whenever I listen to my creations, I find myself thinking, ‘There’s always room for improvement.’ I can never fully satisfy myself.” Although this sense of dissatisfaction may seem disheartening, she acknowledges its positive aspect, stating, “It drives me to constantly push boundaries and avoid complacency. I never want to settle for what I’ve already accomplished; I always strive for progression.”

The popular celebrity, aged 43, recently released her album ‘El Dorado’ back in 2017. However, she has exciting news for her fans as she revealed that she is currently working on her upcoming album, which is anticipated to be released in 2022. In addition, she mentioned that fans can expect to hear new songs throughout the year, which will eventually be included in the album. She expressed her enthusiasm about going on tour next year, stating how thrilled she is for the upcoming experience.

Earlier this year, Shakira made a surprising announcement about her music career. She revealed that she had made a deal with the Hipgnosis Songs Fund, a music investment firm, to sell the publishing rights to all 145 of her songs. This included some of her biggest hits like ‘Whenever, Wherever’. In her statement, Shakira expressed her belief that being a songwriter is just as important, if not more so, than being a singer or artist. She shared that writing has always been a way for her to make sense of the world, even before she started singing at the young age of eight. With this in mind, she had confidence that Hipgnosis would be the perfect new home for her extensive catalogue of music.

The exact amount for which she sold the rights has not been revealed. Hipgnosis guarantees that their clients’ music is broadcasted on radio and TV, ensuring that they receive a substantial income from royalties. Neil Young had previously sold half of his music catalog, which is estimated to be valued at around $150 million (£110 million), to Hipgnosis. The renowned 75-year-old musician signed a profitable agreement with Hipgnosis Songs Fund after the company acquired Lindsey Buckingham’s complete music collection and Jimmy Iovine’s producer royalties.
